North West of Phra Namklao Bridge

Entering Narnia

Neighbourhoods in Bangkok and Nonthaburi seem to be based on a tree structure, I guess to prevent through traffic.  Sometimes it is possible to find a path between the branches, suitable for motorbikes, bicycles and pedestrians.  Within seconds I was away from the busy thoroughfare of Rathanatibeth and cycling on quiet forested roads

Crossing Phra Namnklao Bridge

I actually dont mind cycling the bridges, it is one of the few chances you get to cycle over something resembling a hill in Bangkok.  For the fainter hearted there is a pedestrian lane available, and this also makes photography from the bridge easier.

Cycling By The River

I tried to stay as close to the river as possible looking for shortcuts along narrow local paths when I found them.  Sometimes these lead to a shortcut to the next road, sometimes to somebody's house!

Cutting Back Inland

In order to continue along the river I had to cut back inland.  The corridor of ruralness is quite narrow and modern gated communities are starting to encroach on the peace of the river.

Wat Deang Tamachat

Wats are often a focal point for planning cycle trips, an excuse to rest tired limbs.  Wat Deang Tamachat is a lovely wat situated on the Chao Phraya river opposite the Ministry of Commerce.  I chilled for a bit watching rice boats go by and playing with the friendly dogs.

Looping Back

In order to avoid taking exactly the same route back I looped inland a little, finding that away from the river there are a lot of gated communities springing up.
